Golf Mind
Changing a habit
Mind memory not muscle memory
Changing a habit Mind memory not muscle memory Hogan claimed there´s no such thing as muscle memory Your muscles don´t have memory. Your mind tells your muscles what to do. All humans learn by repetition, whether it´s correct or incorrect. This comes down to how we translate the information that has been given. So we could say that every golf shot you ever hit is perfect, because this is the message sent out from your mind to the muscles.
It's a well documented fact that it takes 60 repetitions a day for 21 successive days to make something a habit. With this in mind, relax and understand that it takes time to make any kind of change. It would be my suggestion that any major golf swing change should be made away from the driving range or the golf course and practiced indoors in front of a mirror. We have found that quality practice away from the environment of hitting balls has a greater success rate, because practice is preferred as apposed to performance. In summary, the mind will want to give you much of the same, so make sure you program it to give you WHAT YOU WANT. Practice makes permanent, so make sure your practice is perfect to create perfect. Then, when you play, just press the play button. The new way will slowly build its way into your mind and become YOUR WAY.
