Exercise

The importance of warming up

Warming up is important to get the blood into the musculoskeletal system to inspire movement and prevent straining or tearing of muscles, tendons and ligaments. It is likening to two elastic bands each immersed in cold and hot waters the one drawn from the hot will be much more elastic, whereas the one from the cold will stretch less and snap. Doing the following 'no ball warm-ups' will help you before you start with the ball.

Weighted club warm up - Start by taking two wedges, starting with small swings and building to full swings with good tempo.

Lower back - Put the driver across the lower back and through the crook of the elbows and make body turns using your normal footwork.

Club across shoulders - Hold the club across the shoulders behind the neck and repeat as above. Exercise the left side - Make practice swings letting go with the right hand near impact. This will remind you to optimise the left side and not let go with the last three fingers of the left hand.

Tempo exercise - Finally make practice swings with both hands on the club focusing on tempo and finishing on the left side with the right heel in the air. To conclude I would like to say anyone who is serious about ones golf then my advice would be to get into a stretching programme as soon as possible.
